Assassin’s Creed 2

Release Date: 2009
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Mac
Genres: Action, Co-op, Third-Person, Open World, Assassins, Stealth, Historical, Parkour, Atmospheric, Good Story
More about the game: Read More
Just like in the previous game, in the real world we play as Desmond Miles, whose ancestors were assassins fighting the Templars. In the first game, the main character was confused and didn’t really get what was going on, but over time, he’s figured out the conflict between the two sides and the importance of the assassins’ mission.
The storyline takes place in Italy, and just like in the last game, we’re hunting for Pieces of Eden by controlling Ezio in the Animus – the heir to an assassin, which his father was. The game introduces new types of weapons and the option to change your outfit’s color. There are also new ways to escape – for example, tossing coins near a hungry crowd or using a smoke bomb to hide from attackers. As you progress, our assassin meets the legendary Leonardo da Vinci, who can craft some new gadgets for you.
The graphics aren’t much different from the first game, the building textures in Italy are drawn excellently, and the parkour mechanics are mesmerizing.
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

Release Date: 2010
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4
Genres: Action, Third-Person, Open World, Assassins, Rome, Medieval, Stealth, Historical, Parkour, Atmospheric, Good Story, Multiplayer
More about the game: Read More
The game’s story picks up where the second Assassin’s Creed left off, with Ezio saving Italy and Desmond searching for a Piece of “Eden”. The plot is incredibly engaging, and the ending will just blow your mind.
A combo system was introduced to the combat – after killing an NPC, you can immediately finish off the next enemy until you get hit. They also added a kick. The game now lets you recruit your own team of assassins, who can be sent on various missions. While playing the main story, you’ll come across side quests and different quest chains that, once completed, will reward you with new gear and armor. An interesting new feature in Brotherhood was the introduction of multiplayer, where you’ll have to hunt other players, while they, in turn, hunt you.
The graphics haven’t changed at all.
Assassin’s Creed 3

Release Date: 2012
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U
Genres: Action, Co-op, Third-Person, Open World, Assassins, Native American, America, Stealth, Historical, Parkour, Atmospheric, Good Story
More about the game: Read More
The game takes place in 18th-century America during the Revolutionary War, as Native American tribes are being driven from their ancestral lands. The Assassins continue their centuries-old war with the Templars for control of priceless artifacts. We get to play as the assassin Connor Kenway, who is half Native American and half English, trying to avenge his mother’s death and protect his tribe from persecution by the Europeans. At times, we’ll also play through the story as the main character’s father, Haytham Kenway – a Templar invader.
The combat and climbing systems have been significantly simplified, literally down to two buttons, but the fighting and parkour remain interesting and exciting thanks to “quick-time events” – scenes where you have to adapt to the environment, like using a human shield to block a soldier’s shot. The game also features a well-developed homestead and economy system. Connor has his own ship, on which you can engage in thrilling naval battles, travel the seas in search of ancient treasures and artifacts. The gameplay includes a huge number of side quests that nicely complement the already interesting story.
The graphics have advanced a lot since the end of the second Assassin’s Creed; building textures are noticeably improved, NPCs are well-drawn, as are various types of weapons, water, animals, roads, etc.
Overall, the 3rd installment is very diverse, with its own economy, crafting, naval battles, historical events, and a huge number of quests.
Assassin’s Creed Liberation

Release Date: 2012
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita
Genres: Action, Open World, Stealth, Assassins, Third-Person, Parkour, Historical, Atmospheric, Female Protagonist
More about the game: Read More
The game’s events unfold in 18th-century New Orleans.
>The story revolves around Aveline – the daughter of wealthy merchants who, instead of attending balls and going on dates, is busy fighting against the slave trade, at least that’s what various pamphlets occasionally found in rundown alleys try to convince us of. The heroine is just as skilled in combat as any man, deftly disarming members of the opposite sex. A memorable feature is the presence of 3 types of outfits, each providing its own advantages in disguise and interaction with characters.
The graphics in Liberation were overhauled during its port to PC.
Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag

Release Date: 2013
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U
Genres: Action, Third-Person, Open World, Assassins, Pirates, Ships, Stealth, Historical, Parkour, Atmospheric, Good Story
More about the game: Read More
The fourth installment takes place in the 18th-century Caribbean islands during the golden age of piracy. The player takes on the role of Edward Kenway – the father of the Templar Haytham Kenway from the 3rd Assassin’s Creed. Edward becomes an assassin under thrilling circumstances during a naval battle that results in both him and an assassin from an enemy ship being washed ashore. After a long chase, the main character finds the assassin’s costume and an artifact with a note, which directs Edward to Havana.
The gameplay consists of exciting naval battles on warships and exploring uninhabited islands and coastal towns. The story is very interesting and revolves around the main character without any of the deviations and convolutions we had enough of in the 3rd part. You have to give credit to the world and the huge number of side quests, which can be more interesting than the main plot – just the experience of swimming with a “diving bell” on the seabed in search of pirate treasure is worth it. There is also a crafting system that requires skins from various animals. The ship customization is also top-notch, with upgrades for defense, cannon installations, and various interior items available.
The graphics are excellent, with basically nothing to complain about.
Assassin’s Creed: unity

Release Date: 2014
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Genres: Action, Co-op, Third-Person, Open World, Assassins, Stealth, Historical, Parkour, Atmospheric, Good Story

The action centers around the French city of Paris during the great French Revolution; history buffs will definitely love it. The main character’s name is Arno Dorian. The assassin’s primary goal is to avenge his family’s death.
To fully complete the storyline, including side missions, you’ll need to spend about two weeks. The script will take us through the most mysterious and secret corners of Italy. As you progress, Arno will get to play detective, which fans of Sherlock Holmes will definitely enjoy. There is also a co-op mode for fun playthroughs with friends.
A lot has changed since the first Assassin’s Creed was released. Specifically in this game, the behavior of people in crowds is completely original; people feel alive, with a host of their own problems and affairs, and each citizen has their own character. The graphics have become much richer; it’s clear that a lot of work went into the game and that considerable time was spent on details, drawing every stone, every branch on a tree, people’s faces, buttons on clothes, and building facades.
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia

Release Date: 2016
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Action, Assassins, 2D, Stealth, Parkour, Platformer, Historical, Side-Scroller
More about the game: Read More
The series’ events unfold after the revolution in Russia in 1918 and the execution of the Romanov royal family. The main character is Nikolai Orelov – a member of the Russian Brotherhood of Assassins. Nikolai also appears in the comic book series dedicated to the Assassin’s Creed game. The plot follows Nikolai’s mission to obtain an artifact belonging to the Tsar’s family, which sends him to the Ural city of Yekaterinburg where he witnesses the massacre of the Romanov family. He then follows the killers to Kazan, and after that, heads to Moscow.
The gameplay remains the same as in the 2 previous installments – the China and India chronicles. It heavily uses elements of parkour, stealth, and a moderate amount of bloody murder scenes. The game introduces areas with bright lighting that exposes the player’s cover, as well as various types of mines and electric traps. As the story progresses, we get to play as Anastasia – the daughter of the late Emperor Nicholas. The girl does not belong to the Assassin Brotherhood, but that doesn’t stop her from skillfully hiding, overcoming various obstacles, and eliminating enemies. The game’s tones are predominantly red and black to emphasize the colors of the revolutionary mood of 20th-century Russia.
The game is captivating with its story and will definitely appeal to fans of the assassin simulator from Russia and CIS countries.
Dishonored

Release Date: 2012
Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One
Genres: Stealth, First-Person, Assassins, Action, Steampunk, Atmospheric, Good Story, Adventure, Magic, Dystopian
More about the game: Read More
In the story, we play as Corvo – the Empress’s bodyguard, who is murdered by hired assassins right at the beginning of the game. Her daughter Emily – the sole heir to the throne – is kidnapped, and the main character is framed for the crime and thrown in prison. Later, a mysterious organization frees Corvo from his grim fate as a prisoner and gives him a list of targets to eliminate in order to restore order to the city and return the rightful heir to the throne.
The action takes place in a single city – Dunwall, located on some mysterious islands. During the game, Corvo meets a certain character known as “The Outsider,” who endows the main character with paranormal abilities like time manipulation, teleportation, possessing people, and much more. These skills can be learned by finding special runes scattered throughout the game. There are also special bone charms in Dunwall that enhance the character’s stats.
A distinctive feature of Dishonored is the huge number of ways to kill both NPCs and key characters – you can poison your target’s food and then watch them suffer, set a mine, stop time and pit two attacking NPCs against each other, or simply slit your victim’s throat or shoot them in the head.
The stealth is also top-notch. In each location, you’ll find a ton of paths to reach your main target, and the assassin’s supernatural abilities will help you while moving and eliminating objects. It’s very interesting to think through every step of your actions.
Hitman Absolution

Release Date: 2012
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Genres: Stealth, Action, Assassins, Third-Person, Tactical, Crime, Good Story, Atmospheric
More about the game: Read More
The story, as usual, revolves around the elite killer “Agent 47.” What distinguishes this particular installment is that they added the ability for the main character to hide behind cover, climb walls, and use an “Instinct” sense that allows him to track enemies through walls.
The Hitman series is distinguished by its immense freedom of action in eliminating targets. You can just gun down all the security staff, or sneak up on your target. You can disguise yourself as a flower delivery guy or pretend to be one of them – by stealing a uniform and walking right under the guards’ noses, cleverly hiding your identity. A hand-to-hand combat system using improvised items – bottles, bricks, books, chickens, etc. – was also introduced in the series.
The graphics in Absolution have been significantly improved – NPCs have been given more expressive facial features and decent animations. Character models and game object textures have been enhanced.
HITMAN 6

Release Date: 2016
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Stealth, Action, Assassins, Third-Person, Tactical, Open World, Atmospheric, Good Story
More about the game: Read More
The game serves as a continuation of the much-loved hitman simulator, Hitman: Absolution. The contract system has returned to the gameplay; it works like a simple phone call with information about the elimination target. All that’s left for us is to plan the target’s elimination. We are given a huge number of ways to destroy them – you can disguise yourself as the victim’s guard or a groundskeeper, quietly sneak up to the target and strangle them, or you can burst in with a machine gun, handing out headshots to everyone you meet, and so on. Before starting a mission, we are given the opportunity to choose the necessary equipment.
Stealth has become more plausible and interesting.
Thief

Release Date: 2014
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Mac
Genres: Stealth, Action, First-Person, Steampunk, Atmospheric, Parkour, Open World, Assassins, Thievery, Medieval
More about the game: Read More
The player takes on the role of a professional thief-assassin, better known in the criminal underworld by the name Garrett. The thief skillfully picks locks, cracks safes, fills his pockets with rings and gems, and cleverly escapes the crime scene to the next poorly closed window or door, where he once again takes everything he likes, right down to family heirlooms and expensive paintings. With the proceeds from selling stolen goods, Garrett can purchase equipment that improves and speeds up his thieving trade, such as a wrench for unscrewing vents, wire cutters for disarming traps, and a razor for conveniently removing paintings from their frames. Or he can exchange his hard-earned gold for bow upgrades to reduce the noise of his footsteps.
The plot revolves around a strange disease that has befallen the city, which the main character must deal with. The game has very little non-linearity; the entire gameplay is a step-by-step series of quests. There are, of course, a couple of short side quest chains. The graphics are gorgeous, with colorful story cutscenes, atmospheric buildings, and huge halls filled with old books and sculptures where there’s plenty to loot.
Overall, the gameplay of Thief is engaging if you enjoy hiding from guards, moving silently, and snatching wallets of gold from under their noses, breaking into other people’s houses and taking everything valuable for yourself.
Mark of the Ninja

Release Date: 2012
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Genres: Stealth, Platformer, Ninja, Assassins, Indie, 2D, Action, Side-Scroller, Adventure, Atmospheric
More about the game: Read More
A 2D action game that tells us the story of an assassin living a peaceful life, training day after day to perfect his skills in stealth and acrobatics, while meditating with his brethren. But one fateful day, the entire clan is attacked by unknown militants who kill all the warriors, including the main character, who survives and vows to avenge his fallen brothers and find out who attacked their camp.
The gameplay is quite interesting – as a ninja, the player must hide in the shadows, stun guards, move stealthily behind cover, throw smoke bombs, and grapple onto chains. There are also various artifacts and scrolls to be found on the level. As the player progresses, they will encounter additional tasks; completing them earns the main character points that the assassin can use to learn new abilities.
The game’s art style resembles a hand-drawn comic book with a predominance of black tones.
Styx: Master of Shadows

Release Date: 2014
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Stealth, Action, Adventure, Atmospheric, Good Story, Third-Person, Assassins, Parkour, Fantasy, RPG, Steampunk
More about the game: Read More
You’ll play as the stealthy and ruthless goblin-assassin, Styx. The story revolves around Styx’s desire to steal the heart of the World Tree, which grows in the lands of humans and elves. According to the main character’s plans, the heart will reveal the mystery of the goblin’s origin, a question he has been trying to solve for 200 years, and he doesn’t really care about the outcome of his scheme.
The gameplay immediately makes it clear that we’re playing a stealth game. The enemies have pretty sharp eyes and good hearing, and in open combat, our vicious assassin is unlikely to win. Also, while progressing through a level, you should pay special attention to things that make noise; for example, accidentally bumping into a shield will attract the attention of the guards, who will gladly search the area for Styx. There are a huge number of ways to reach your target in the game, so you’ll enjoy planning your routes to overcome obstacles. Another plus is the goblin’s ability to create clones of himself; a created clone can solve a ton of problems – from poisoning food to assassination.
The graphics aren’t bad; the NPCs and building textures are reminiscent of a fantasy universe.
Styx: Shards of Darkness

Release Date: 2017
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Stealth, Action, Adventure, Atmospheric, Good Story, Third-Person, Assassins, Parkour, Fantasy, RPG, Co-op
More about the game: Read More
Our old friend, the goblin Styx, is back in action in a new stealth adventure! We’ll get to explore and master huge open locations, sneak past new enemies or just slaughter them in droves, and take down bosses along the way. Our goblin-assassin’s arsenal has been expanded with new deadly skills and weapons, so you won’t get bored.
The main feature of the game is that you can play it all solo, or you can invite a buddy and cause some chaos in co-op mode. We’ll be climbing through the dizzying city of the Elves, skulking through the dangerous lands of the Dwarves, and surviving in other uncharted places full of deadly dangers to complete our mission. Failure could cost his kin dearly.
The Unreal Engine 4 brings to life the multi-level sandboxes we’ll be climbing, swinging, and hanging from. Hide in the darkest corners or get up high so no one notices you. Experience points can be spent on upgrading assassination, stealth, magic, etc., unlocking new skills and abilities. You can find valuable artifacts and ingredients for crafting traps around the world, and the feature of creating clones to distract and deceive NPCs is still here – the choice is yours!
Styx: Blades of Greed

Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Genres: Stealth, Action, Adventure, Atmospheric, Good Story, Third-Person, Assassins, Parkour, Fantasy
More about the game: Read More
Our favorite goblin, Styx, is back, and this time he’s decided he’s done working for the man! Now he’s his own boss, flying his airship and hunting for quartz – the most valuable and dangerous resource in the world. All of this is happening on the brink of a major war between the elves, humans, and orcs, so it won’t be boring.
The devs say they’ve perfected the formula of the first two games, with a focus on creativity. In addition to the familiar features from the previous installments, like cloning and amber-fueled invisibility, new tricks from quartz have been added – now you can control enemies’ minds and even manipulate time. Each mission is a kind of stealth puzzle that can be solved in a multitude of ways. Before each major heist, you’ll need to prepare – crafting weapons and various potions.
For exploration, we’re given three massive locations: the human wall, an orc village, and the ruins of the elven capital. Navigating them has become even more interesting. You can glide on a glider, quickly reach hard-to-access places with a grappling hook, and climb walls with claws. Verticality is key here, and new tools will open up previously closed paths, almost like in Darksiders.
And if you’re the type to grab a dagger first and ask questions later… well, that’s also an option. The main thing to remember is Styx’s rule: no witnesses – no crime!
Velvet Assassin

Release Date: 2009
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360
Genres: Stealth, Action, World War II, Third-Person, Atmospheric, Assassins, Spies, Historical, Female Protagonist
More about the game: Read More
The game’s narrative begins in the final years of World War II, from the perspective of the main character, Violette Szabo – a young spy-assassin from England conducting espionage and sabotage activities within the German army, who has been seriously wounded and is currently in a hospital. We will learn about all her adventures through the main character’s dreams. Overall, the game’s plot is quite linear and repetitive, at some point resembling Splinter Cell.
The gameplay is pure stealth. The heroine must constantly stay in the shadows, hiding from German soldiers; running out to meet them head-on is a death sentence. Violette wields an army knife with masterful precision, using it to slice carotid arteries and stop the hearts of her opponents in 50 different variations. Her arsenal also includes a silenced pistol, which helps in difficult situations. In particularly tough spots, Violette can inject herself with morphine, thereby stopping time, which allows the main character to finish off any enemy.
The graphics are acceptable for a 2009 game.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Release Date: 2014
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Action, Open World, Action, Fantasy, Adventure, Third-Person, Stealth, RPG, Assassins, Slasher, Parkour, Good Story, Atmospheric, Orcs, The Lord of the Rings
More about the game: Read More
The game is based on The Lord of the Rings, and this installment tells the story of events when Mordor wasn’t yet a completely scorched wasteland filled to the brim with slobbering orcs; no, Mordor was then inhabited by men. The player takes on the burden of Talion, a ranger who, along with his family, was executed by a band of orcs. But the main character doesn’t die – at the moment of death, the soul of the elf Celebrimbor, wandering between worlds, possesses him, thus saving Talion from death. As many have already guessed, the player’s goal becomes revenge for his family’s death and the elf’s desire to slaughter every orc in his path.
For the first 1-2 hours, the gameplay resembles a mindless meat grinder with gorgeous scenes of orc executions and dismemberment – severed heads and the carcasses of impaled greenskins lie everywhere. After completing a few quests involving the elimination of leaders or rescuing prisoners, the hero will unlock the ability to upgrade certain skills and new ways to kill. At this point, the game becomes more like an assassin simulator, and towards the middle, Talion will be enslaving the souls of orcs, bringing their bodies to his side.
The game’s hook is the promotion of our first candidate, Ratbag – a small, cowardly half-goblin – up the orc hierarchical ladder, who, in turn, will help us with our plan for revenge. Later, you can subjugate the entire orc horde.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Release Date: 2017
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Action, Open World, Action, Fantasy, Adventure, Third-Person, Stealth, RPG, Assassins, Slasher, Parkour, Good Story, Atmospheric, Orcs, The Lord of the Rings
More about the game: Read More
The sequel to the acclaimed Shadow of Mordor, where the developers decided to take all the best from the first part and multiply it by two. The main feature – the famous “Nemesis System” – is fully jacked up here. Every orc you meet will remember you. Whether you kill him, or he kills you – each NPC will have its own unique story and career path.
The plot revolves around the creation of a new Ring of Power. Yes, your very own, with blackjack and orcs. The main gameplay now is not just running around Mordor, but a whole strategy. We’ll have to assemble our own army of orcs, level them up, and then lead them to storm huge fortresses in massive battles.
The goal is simple and ambitious – to conquer all of Mordor and rule it from within, using your orc army. We’ll be facing none other than the full might of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Release Date: 2019
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Action, Slasher, Stealth, Ninja, Assassins, RPG, Third-Person, Atmospheric, Good Story, Fantasy, Japan
More about the game: Read More
Actually, Sekiro isn’t exactly about assassins. Simply put, it’s like Dark Souls, but instead of swords and shields, we have a katana and deadly prosthetics. The gameplay is based on lightning-fast combat and parrying. If in the “Souls” games you could block a hit or dodge, here you need to learn to perfectly deflect attacks, absorbing them into your posture – it’s pure muscle-memory gameplay. At first, of course, you find yourself thinking, “how is this even possible to beat,” but with time, you start to understand the mechanics.
As for the story, as always with FromSoftware, it’s shrouded in mystery and told through dialogues with NPCs and item descriptions. We play as a one-armed outcast warrior nicknamed Wolf, who is saving his young master. The story unfolds in Sengoku-period Japan and, by the way, looks very beautiful. The visuals are absolutely killer, but the optimization is garbage.
By the way, there’s no character progression in the usual sense. All XP goes to learning new skills, but your stats don’t level up. So to get stronger, you don’t need to grind, you just need to learn to play. This, of course, is a real challenge for hardcore players.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Release Date: 2010
Platforms: PC, PS3, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii, Xbox 360
Genres: Action, Adventure, Platformer, Parkour, Third-Person, Time, Assassins
More about the game: Read More
The events of this installment take place in the kingdom of the Prince’s older brother, Malik. Arriving there, the Prince discovers a vast army besieging his brother’s fortress walls. Without much thought, the Prince rises to defend his older brother, who has always been his authority and mentor. Meanwhile, the fierce onslaught forces Malik to decide to unleash the Sands of Time to release the sinister army of Solomon. In an attempt to open the sands, the key breaks into two pieces, releasing malevolent skeletons and making them an uncontrollable machine of destruction and death.
The gameplay, as in previous parts of the series, is very dynamic – filled with obstacles and a whole bunch of sand zombies. The player is given 3 development branches to upgrade their character’s abilities. The assassin is also able to rewind time. As you progress, you’ll encounter a couple of bosses, but they won’t cause our assassin much harm.
The graphics are pretty decent for 2010.
Shadwen

Release Date: 2016
Platforms: PC
Genres: Action, Stealth, Adventure, Assassins, Medieval, Third-Person, Atmospheric, Crafting
More about the game: Read More
We play as a hired killer, an assassin with the alias Shadwen, whose main goal is to sneak through the militia-infested streets of the old city to the palace and kill the king.
The player must choose their own style of playthrough and decide whether to kill the enemies in their path or to bypass them. We’re not allowed to make a mistake, as the heroine dies in a single hit. For equipment, we have a grappling hook that allows us to drop heavy objects on enemies and latch onto protruding beams, so you can traverse levels from above. The second character in the game is a little girl named Lily. Naturally, she can’t fight, so we need to clear the path for our companion.
The game’s hook is that time stops as long as the character is still; you can also rewind the timer in case of a mistake.
Alekhine’s Gun

Release Date: 2016
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Genres: Action, Stealth, Adventure, Third-Person, Assassins, Spies, World War II, Historical, Atmospheric
More about the game: Read More
The game’s events begin in 1963. We play as a KGB agent investigating the death of an old friend, which coincided with the Kennedy assassination.
Before the start of each mission, we are offered to choose special equipment and are given a personal assignment. The player is given complete freedom of action in completing each individual quest. You can shoot all the enemies in the location, or act stealthily, changing into the guards’ uniforms. In missions with eliminations, accidental deaths are allowed; you can poison the victim, strangle the target, or push them down the stairs, and much more. For the style of playthrough, we are awarded points that can be spent on unlocking new weapons or modifying old ones.
